Jimam Chowdhury, 21, the son of Jewel Chowdhury, a well-known face of the Bangladeshi community in the United States and former general secretary of the Jalalabad Association, has died prematurely (Inna Lillahi wa Inna Ilahi Raziun).
Jewel Chowdhury went to Bangladesh with his only son Jimam and family in the last week of December. On January 26, Jim returned to New York alone. The family of a family friend took him to their home from the JFK airport. Jim was there that night. The next day, on the evening of January 26, Jim was taken to his home on Hillside Avenue in Jamaica.
No one was reported to have contacted Jim in New York all day on Friday, January 29. On the afternoon of January 30, a friend of Jimam came to his house and called him but got no response. He later entered the house with the help of people on the ground floor of the same house and saw Jimmam standing still and called 911. Police went to the spot and recovered Jimam’s body and took it to the hospital for autopsy. Jimam was initially reported to have died of a heart attack.
