New schedule of bank transactions due to ongoing restrictions

News Desk: The ongoing ban announced by the government to prevent coronavirus infection in the country has been extended for another seven days. As a result, the ban will remain in force till June 6. At this time the bank will remain open to a limited extent as before. However, the seven-day transaction and bank opening hours have been extended by half an hour.

Transactions will be done in the bank on Monday (May 31) from 10 am to 3 pm. The bank will be open till 4:30 pm to complete post-transaction ancillary activities.

On Sunday (May 30), Bangladesh Bank’s Department of Off-site Supervision issued a new directive on ‘banking activities in the context of restrictions imposed by the government to prevent coronavirus infection’.

It said that in order to curb the spread of coronavirus-borne disease (COVID-19), limited banking activities will be conducted till June 6 in order to continue the banking activities to a limited extent.

At this time daily banking transactions will be from 10 am to 3 pm. The concerned bank branch and the concerned department of the head office can be kept open till 4.30 pm for carrying out ancillary activities after the transaction.

The other instructions given in the DOS Circular Letter No. 15 issued by Bangladesh Bank on 13 April will remain unchanged. In other words, one branch of each bank will be open in the upazila town on Thursdays, Sundays and Tuesdays and one branch within two kilometers of the city corporation area will be open every working day.

The directive was issued with the powers conferred under Section 45 of the Banking Companies Act, 1991, the circular said.
