News Desk: The price of jet fuel has increased four times in the last four months. The price of oil is now 60 rupees per liter. As a result, the cost of domestic airlines will increase. Passengers will also increase the cost of air travel and transportation of goods within the country. The prices of some imported and transport-dependent products may also go up.

During the Corona period, passenger transport on airplanes decreased several times. Recently the traffic has started to increase. On the other hand, since the onset of the Corona outbreak, cargo plane transport has increased. About 40 to 45 percent of the operating costs of domestic aircraft go to fuel. In such a scenario, the price of jet fuel will increase by 25 per cent in four months, along with passenger transport fares, as well as the cost of transporting some urgent and raw-perishable goods. There will be negative impact in the relevant cases.

Padma Oil, a company under Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation, markets jet fuel in the country. The decision to increase the price of Jet Fuel A1 was taken at the monthly meeting of the committee comprising oil prices last Thursday. The new rates are effective from March 10. As a result, the price of jet fuel has gone up from Rs 55 to Rs 70 in February. Earlier, the price of the fuel was fixed at Tk 53 in January and Tk 48 in December.

In this regard, BPC Director (Management and Planning) Syed Mehdi Hasan said, “Oil prices are rising in the international market.” The price of jet fuel has been increased in coordination with him.

Those involved in transporting passengers and goods by air have called the price hike unreasonable, saying the price of jet fuel in Bangladesh is higher than the international price. This will increase the cost of transportation. Inland transport alone will increase the cost by Rs 800 to Rs 900 per person per trip. However, they will not increase at once, step by step.
