News Desk: As part of the withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan, their main military base in the capital Kabul has been handed over to Afghan forces. The base, dubbed the New Kabul Compound, was officially handed over to the Afghan Defense Ministry on Friday (May 26th) by General Scott Miller, the top commander of NATO in Afghanistan. News agency Anadolu has published the news.

In a tweet, the Afghan Defense Ministry said General Scott Miller, NATO’s top commander, had reaffirmed the international community’s commitment to providing economic and military support to Afghan forces.

The United States has been handing over a large amount of military equipment to Afghan forces as part of the country’s central directive since US President Joe Biden announced his withdrawal. Last week, US officials formally handed over at least five military facilities to Afghanistan’s defense ministry. In all, 25 percent of their return process has been completed so far.

On the other hand, Taliban attacks in Afghanistan have increased in the days since the withdrawal of US troops. Concerns have been raised by many in Washington, ranging from Biden administration officials.
