News Desk: Despite the huge revenue deficit in the current financial year, the size of the next budget will increase, said Planning Minister MA Mannan. The health sector will get the highest priority in the upcoming budget. The coverage of social security programs will also increase. The size of the new budget could be Tk 6 lakh crore, says the finance ministry.
The country’s economy has been in turmoil since March last year. The wheel of production has not turned for a long time. Low-income people are suffering for their livelihood. Imports and exports decreased. All indicators of the economy are negative except for expatriate income.
Planning Minister MA Mannan said the budget was being prepared in the second wave of Corona. The next budget will be expansionary. The size may be more or less 6 lakh five thousand crore. The revenue collection target is four lakh crore rupees. However, for the first time, there is a budget deficit of Rs 2 lakh crore. The main goal in the coming budget is to revive the economy.
The planning minister further said that capacity building in the health sector will be given priority in the budget due to Corona. There will also be the cost of buying the vaccine. The priority list also includes social security, agriculture, infrastructure and education.
The growth target in this year’s budget will be reduced by more than 1 percent over the current financial year. In other words, the target for GDP growth in the next financial year will be 7 percent.
