Sports Desk: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Tuesday suspended the IPL due to a terrible corona infection. This time Sourav Ganguly is thinking of T20 World Cup. With so many corona attacks in the 8-team IPL, there is ample reason to worry about whether it will be possible for the 16-team World Cup to be held in India at all. Although not a final decision, the ICC has hinted that the World Cup could be transferred to the United Arab Emirates.
According to PTI, Indian board officials have started talks on hosting the Twenty20 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates.
However, a BCCI spokesperson strongly protested after the ICC statement that the T20 World Cup would be held in India. But after the suspension of IPL, the tone of BCCI is bound to soften.
Although the schedule of the World Cup has not been announced yet. The ICC will decide on the T20 World Cup next June.
A BCCI official said, ‘In the 70-year history of the country, there has never been such a tragedy in the health system. The postponement of the IPL within 4 weeks of its inception proves that the country is not in a position to host large-scale competitions. A third wave of corona infections is expected in India in November. If so, it will be difficult to host the T20 World Cup at that time. That’s why the tournament could be moved to the United Arab Emirates. “
