Desk report: The 12th round of the national chess competition was going on in the Bangladesh Chess Federation. Ziaur Rahman was playing against Enamul Hossain Rajiv. Ziaur suddenly collapsed on the ground while playing in the match which started at 3 pm today (Friday). Then he was rushed to the hospital. But he died before that. Bangladesh Chess Federation administrative officer and international arbiter Harunur Rashid confirmed the news.
After being taken to the hospital, it was initially assumed that he had a heart attack. He was taken to Ibrahim Kardia in Shahbagh after he fell ill during the match. Immediately the doctors on duty started treating him. But after a while, a tragic incident took place in the Bangladesh sports arena. This chess grandmaster died before reaching the hospital, said the doctors. He was 50 years old at the time of his death.
According to several sources close to the federation, he unexpectedly turned his head and fell from the chair during the match against Rajeev. Everyone grabbed him and brought him down from the Federation building in Paltan in the capital. He was then rushed to the hospital. Doctors didn’t find his pulse until about 15 minutes after he was taken to the hospital. His family and relatives are said to be in critical condition.
