Two more months were extended for submission of balance sheet

News Desk: Due to government restrictions to prevent coronavirus infection, the bank’s annual financial report or balance sheet submission period has been extended by two months to June. Generally, Bangladesh Bank was required to finalize the balance sheet by April, but Bangladesh Bank extended the time for limited banking activities.

A notification in this regard was issued on Wednesday and sent to the chief executives of the banks.

The Banking Companies Act stipulates that the audited financial statements of banks must be submitted to Bangladesh Bank within two months of the end of the year. Provided, however, that Bangladesh Bank may extend the time limit for submission of returns to not more than two months. This means that in general Bangladesh Bank can give time till maximum April.

Banks in Bangladesh have been exempted from the obligation to submit annual reports by April in consultation with the government, the bank said in a statement. The deadline for submission of annual audit report for 2020 is June 30 this year.
