Pakistan overcome stubborn WI, win first series in Caribbean

Pakistan clinched a nail-biting victory in the third and final Test against the West Indies on Sunday, recording their first ever victory in a series in the Caribbean, reports Dawn

Pakistan finally overcame a dour resistance by the West Indians, led by the stubborn Roston Chase who held the innings together with a patient, self-effacing innings of 101 not out.

The West Indies, needing 304 for victory, were all out for 202, with just one over remaining of the mandatory overs.

It took Pakistan 36 overs to claim the last four wickets as the Caribbean tail wagged much to the irritation of their rivals.

Yasir Shah dismissed Shannon Gabriel after he and Chase had threatened to pull off a miraculous draw. The leg spinner claimed five wickets in the second innings and eight in the match. He ended the series with 25 wickets.
