News Desk: Former US President Donald Trump has said that “Twitter and Facebook should be shut down in every country.”

In a statement issued Tuesday, Trump called on countries to shut down Twitter and Facebook.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian government has shut down Twitter. Trump welcomed the country’s move. He said other countries in the world should follow Nigeria in this regard.

Congratulating Nigeria, Trump said they had banned the social media in the country after deleting the president’s tweet. All other countries should ban Twitter as well as Facebook.

A post by Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari deleted Twitter, The New York Times reported last week. The Nigerian president threatened to punish some people in his post. Twitter later deleted the post for allegedly violating the rules. Last Friday, the Nigerian government banned Twitter indefinitely.

Trump once spent a lot of time posting frequently on Facebook and Twitter. Trump’s provocation led to allegations of an attack on Capitol Hill on January 8. Trump was banned from social media in the wake of the bloody attack.

Trump has been permanently banned on Twitter. His ban on Facebook has been extended for another two years. Trump is outraged by being banned through social media. Trump said in his statement on Tuesday that he was not being given the opportunity to speak freely through these channels.
