From today, import-export to Akhaura land port is normal again

News Desk: Import and export of goods between India and Bangladesh has become normal after the Akhaura land port in Brahmanbaria was closed for four days due to the holy Eid-ul-Fitr and weekly holidays.

Trade between the two countries resumed on Monday morning with the export of fish to Tripura, India.

Akhaura Land Port Importer-Exporter Association General Secretary. Shafiqul Islam and businessman Rajib Uddin Bhuiyan said the import-export trade was closed for four days from May 13 to May 16 on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr.

Import and export trade activities have started again through this port from 10:30 am on Monday.

However, Akhaura Immigration In-Charge Abdul Hamid confirmed that it was normal for passengers with passports stranded in both the countries to cross under special arrangements at that time.

He said even though the import-export trade was closed for four days in a row on this land border route, the passage of passengers with special approved passports was normal.

Indian nationals stranded in Bangladesh due to the closure of the covid-19 situation have been deported to their home countries as per the list of the Indian High Commission on the instructions of the Bangladesh Ministry of External Affairs and the Ministry of Home Affairs.

On the other hand, Bangladeshis stranded in India are returning to the country with No Objection Certificate (NOC) from Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Agartala.
