Thirty-five percent of garment factory workers have not yet been paid

News Desk: Workers of 2,818 garment factories have not yet received their salaries last month (April). As of Monday (May 10th), a survey of industrial police showed a total of 7,892 garment factories, with 35 per cent of workers not receiving wages. And 5 thousand 227 factories have given bonus. In other words, 33 percent of the factories did not get bonus.

However, BGMEA claims that 90 per cent of the factories affiliated to their organization have been paid. Eid bonus has not been given to 8 percent factories yet.

BGMEA, BKMEA and BTMA, the garment owners’ association, said they would pay the workers who did not pay their salaries and bonuses by Tuesday (May 11th).

Earlier, at a meeting of the Tripartite Consultative Council (TCC) on April 29, the owners and workers unanimously decided that all workers should pay their April salaries and Eid bonuses by May 10. It was further decided that BGMEA and BKMEA would arrange regional by-rotation leave as per the government holiday guidelines.
