Sports Desk: Bangladesh women’s football team has not played any international match for more than two years. Sabina-Mariara last played against India in the SAF Championship on March 20, 2019.
Bangladesh’s name was not in the ranking announced for girls on December 18 last year after not playing international matches for a long time. But four months later, the ranking announced by FIFA on Friday, the girls of Bangladesh have entered.
Many have been surprised to enter the ranking of girls without playing. At present Bangladesh team is ranked 137th. Earlier, Sabina was ranked 134th in the list announced on August 14, 2020.
Despite not being busy with the national team, Bangladesh often plays in international tournaments in age-based competitions. However, ranking is not judged in age-based competitions. Mahfuza Akhter Kiran, chairman of the BFF women’s football committee, explained the inclusion of girls in the FIFA rankings despite not playing. “Earlier, the rule was that any country would go out of the rankings if it did not play an international match for 18 months. It’s been 48 months since FIFA changed the rules. That is why we have slipped into the rankings. ”
