Sports Desk: Bangladesh Blue team has won a gold medal in the women’s cricket event of Bangabandhu Ninth Bangladesh Games. Salma Khatun’s Blue team, which dominated the three-team competition from the beginning, was also irresistible in the final. The Blue team defeated the Bangladesh Green team by a huge margin of 8 wickets in the final held at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium yesterday. Salma Bahini is the undefeated champion after winning three matches in a row in the competition. After losing two matches, Bangladesh Red team was eliminated before the final.

Bangladesh Olympic Association (BOA) Secretary General Syed Shahed Reza, Vice President Sheikh Bashir Ahmed and BCB Women’s Wing Chairman Shafiul Alam Chowdhury Nadel distributed prizes among the winners after the match yesterday. Besides, runners-up Bangladesh Green team was awarded silver medal and third place Bangladesh Red team was awarded bronze medal.

Batting first in Sylhet yesterday, Bangladesh Green team was all out for 72 runs in 35.6 overs. Sharmin Sultana’s team could not make a big score with the bowling of Blue team’s two fast bowlers Jahanara Alam and Mumta Henna. Experienced Jahanara Alam took 3 wickets for 15 runs. Emerging left-arm pacer Mumta Henao took 3 wickets for 15 runs. Captain Salma Khatun took 2 wickets and Rabia Khan took 1 wicket. Sanjida Islam scored 12, Rumana Ahmed 14 and Ritu Moni 18 runs for the Green team. And no one could touch the double digit house.

The Blue team was happy to win the gold by crossing the target effortlessly. They won the match by scoring 74 runs for two wickets in 18.2 overs. Murshid Khatun scored 9, Shamima Sultana 31, Farzana Haque Pinki 26 not out and Isma Tanzim 1 not out. Rumana and Khadijatul Kubra of Green team took 1 wicket each. Shamima Sultana was the best in the match. Fariha Thirst of the Blue team received the award for the best player in the tournament.

Note that the main event of Bangabandhu Bangladesh Games will start on April 1. At the same time, Bangladesh women cricketers will play a home series against the emerging team of South Africa. So the women’s cricket event of the Games has already been organized. The event ended with Jahanara-Salma winning gold.
