Sports Desk: The West Indies have announced a 14-member squad for the Twenty20 series against Sri Lanka. Chris Gayle and Fidel Edwards have been named in the squad after a long absence. With this, Edwards returned to the team after 9 years and Gayle after 2 years.
Edwards last played in the national team jersey in 2012, against Sri Lanka. With the T20 World Cup looming, the Barbadian star has been brought back to his strength in the pace bowling unit.
On the other hand, Gayle has returned to the T20 squad after 2 years. Gayle was quite brilliant with the bat in the ongoing PSL in Pakistan. As a reward, the 41-year-old star returned to the team after attracting the attention of the selection panel.
Besides, Akil Hossain and Kevin Sinclair have got a place in the T20 squad for the first time. With that, Jason Holder has returned to the T20 squad. Although he missed a few series, he has been in great form lately. Akil Hossain got a place in the T20 and ODI squad after showing great performance in the CPL. Kyle Myers has retained his place in the ODI squad after showing great performance in the Bangladesh tour.
Andre Russell has recovered from Covid-19 but is not in the series. Sheldon Cottrell, Ocean Thomas, Shimron Hetmeyer and Roston Chase were not called up due to lack of fitness standards. Kieron Pollard will lead for both formats.
