Women’s cricket team aims to win all group matches

Bangladesh women cricket team is needed to be more consistent in their performance to reach at their ultimate target of the top four in the upcoming ICC Women’s World Cup Qualifier 2017 though they have set their initial target to break into the Super Six stage.

In an effort to implement their goal, the Tigress have to overcome the stiff hurdle of the group stage, where they have to compete against Pakistan, South Africa, Scotland and Papua New Guinea.
Sri Lanka will host the qualifier, which will be taken place with the participation of 10- nation. Bangladesh have been clubbed in the Group-B with Papua New Guinea, Pakistan, Scotland and South Africa.
Bangladesh women’s team will fly for Colombo by a flight of Sri Lankan Airlines at 2:05pm today.
All the final squad players, coaching staffs and team management were gathered for a formal photo session at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium (SBNCS) in Mirpur, where Bangladesh skipper Rumana Ahmed and head coach David Capel spoke with media.
The top three teams from either group will make the Super Six stage and be assured of ODI status over the next four-year cycle while the top four teams will not only qualify for the ICC Women’s World Cup 2017 but also ensure a place in the next ICC Women’s Championship.
Rumana Ahmed said that they seek to capitalise the chance to go into the Group-8 of the ICC rankings. “It’s an important tournament for us. Although the tournament is new, our target is old. We have been trying to go through the top eight. It is the best opportunity for us to go into the Group-8,” said Rumana Ahmed.
“The opportunity we got so far we have tried our best to improve our batting. Already we improved a lot than the past. We are just waiting for showcasing ourselves,” Ahmed told reporters after their photo session.
The batting and fielding were the root of Bangladesh team’s woes, who works on it intensely ahead of the qualifier.
“The accounts of some dropping catches and misfielding have been happened in the last series against South Africa. We have worked a lot on it. Hopefully it will not be repeated in future,” Bangladesh captain said.
She said that they seek to move to Super Six beating all the teams of the group-B.
“All the teams of our group are better and stronger. We want to cruise to the Super Six beating all of them,” the 25-year-old said.
When asked about plan for rival teams, the all-rounder said, “We have discrete plan for each team. We know all of our opponents as we played against them in the past. Hopefully if we could move forward according to our plan we could win against them.”
Head coach David Capel on the other hand said that they want to evolve through tournament to reach their target by playing one match at a time.
“We need to first go there. We have to play four matches in five days, which is quite busiest schedule. We need to target one match at a time and then the next one,” said David Capel.
