A Sylhet court has sentenced industrialist Ragib Ali and his son to 14 years imrpisonment each, for forgery and for illegally occupying endowed land of the Tarapur Tea Estate in Sylhet.
The court of Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Saifuzzaman Hero passed the verdict today. Ragib was sent to jail on 24th November last year, after he was detained and deported by Indian immigration police.
According to case files, Ragib illegally started taking over the land of the estate in 1990, after forcing its legal Shebayet, or caretaker, Pankaj Kumar Gupta to leave the country.
