Bronx car accident injures off-duty officer, kills woman

A woman was killed and a 32-year-old man is in critical condition after a fiery crash in the Bronx Wednesday night, police said.

The man is a police officer, who was off-duty at the time, cops said. The vehicle, a 2012 Dodge Charger, caught fire after it flipped off the road at City Island Road and Park Drive, or City Island Circle, at about 11:45 p.m.

Police said it was not immediately clear who the driver was.

Two other off-duty police officers saw the crash and were able to pull the man out of the car, police said. He was taken to Jacobi Medical Center with trauma and burns on both legs, they said.

The woman, who has not been identified, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The off-duty officers who responded were taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation, but are OK, police said.

There were no other vehicles involved in the accident, police said.
