Finland’s Prime Minister Juha Sipila has denied allegations that he tried to suppress coverage of allegations against him and his family.<\/p>\n
Mr Sipila has already rejected claims of a conflict of interest over a contract awarded by a state-run mine to a steel company owned by his relatives.<\/p>\n
But the case has now also placed him at the heart of a censorship row.<\/p>\n
It has emerged that Mr Sipila sent a series of emails to public broadcaster YLE to complain about its coverage.<\/p>\n
Finland has been rated highest in the World Press Freedom index for the past five years.<\/p>\n
The prime minister told reporters on Wednesday that he had not tried to limit press freedom or influence the broadcaster, but said he had not been given a fair opportunity to comment on the allegations against him.<\/p>\n
