Mr Obama mounted a fierce campaign to prevent Mr Trump from winning the White House, branding him \u2018unfit\u2019 for office.<\/p>\n<p>But the president has now urged all Americans to accept the result of Tuesday\u2019s election.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u2018We are now all rooting for his success in uniting and leading the country,\u2019 Barack Obama said of Mr Trump. Despite Mr Obama\u2019s calls for unity and Mrs Clinton telling supporters Mr Trump must be given a \u2018chance to lead,\u2019 his victory has sparked protests in several US states.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Hundreds of Anti-Trump demonstrators in New York staged a march on Trump Tower in Manhattan on Wednesday evening, waving placards declaring \u2018Not my president\u2019 and other slogans.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Police earlier erected concrete barriers and other security measures outside the 5th Avenue skyscraper, which is likely to be Mr Trump\u2019s headquarters during the transition to power.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>There were also reports of protesters blocking the entrance to Trump Tower in Chicago on Wednesday evening, chanting: \u2018No Trump, No KKK, No Fascists USA\u2019 and \u2018Not my president!\u2019<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In Oakland, California, and Portland, Oregon, protesters have reportedly burned American flags. In his victory speech in the early hours of Wednesday, Mr Trump vowed to \u2018bind the wounds of division\u2019, after the acrimonious election contest, and to be \u2018president for all Americans\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>White House spokesman Josh Earnest has insisted Mr Obama will be sincere about ensuring a smooth handover when he meets Mr Trump, although he added: \u2018I\u2019m not saying it`s going to be an easy meeting.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The president-elect will be accompanied to the White House on Thursday morning by his wife, Melania, who will have a meeting with First Lady Michelle Obama in the White House residence.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Mr Obama, who congratulated his successor in a phone call in the early hours of Wednesday, said it was \u2018no secret\u2019 that he and Mr Trump had pretty significant differences.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>But he added that \u2018we all want what\u2019s best for this country\u2019 and he was \u2018heartened\u2019 by what he heard in Mr Trump\u2019s remarks the night before.
