Senior Republicans have condemned obscene comments Donald Trump made about women in a 2005 videotape.<\/span><\/p>\n

In the video, posted by the Washington Post, Mr Trump is heard telling TV host Billy Bush \u201cyou can do anything\u201d to women \u201cwhen you\u2019re a star\u201d.<\/p>\n

The New York businessman bragged about trying to have sex with a married woman as well as kissing and groping others.<\/p>\n

Mr Trump later issued an apology: \u201cI said it. I was wrong, I apologise. I pledge to be a better man.\u201d<\/p>\n

In a filmed statement on his Facebook page, he added that the videotape was a \u201cdistraction\u201d from more important political issues.<\/p>\n

Earlier on Friday, when the video first emerged, he had dismissed it as \u201clocker room banter\u201d and added \u201cBill Clinton has said far worse to me\u201d.<\/p>\n

He attacked the former president in his Facebook apology.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve said some foolish things, but there\u2019s a big difference between the words and actions of other people,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cBill Clinton has actually abused women. And Hillary has bullied, attacked, shamed and intimidated his victims. We will discuss this more in the coming days.\u201d<\/p>\n

After the video became public on Friday evening, senior Republicans were harsh in their condemnation of Mr Trump\u2019s comments.<\/p>\n

House Speaker Paul Ryan rescinded his invitation to Mr Trump to attend the Republican Fall Fest in his home state of Wisconsin this weekend.<\/p>\n

Mr Trump said that his vice-presidential running mate Mike Pence would represent him at the Wisconsin event.<\/p>\n

Senate majority leader Mitch McConnell said the comments were \u201crepugnant,\u201d adding that Mr Trump \u201cneeds to apologise directly to women and girls everywhere\u201d.<\/p>\n

Another senior Republican, John McCain, said there were \u201cno excuses for Donald Trump\u2019s offensive and demeaning comments\u201d.<\/p>\n

The video has emerged two days before Mr Trump takes part in the second presidential debate with his Democratic opponent Hillary Clinton.<\/p>\n

The two candidates will be in St Louis for the televised encounter, with polling day only a month away.<\/p>\n

\u2018Automatically attracted\u2019<\/h2>\n

The clip was part of unaired footage of an Access Hollywood segment ahead of Mr Trump\u2019s appearance on the soap opera Days of Our Lives.<\/p>\n

\u201cI moved on her and I failed. I\u2019ll admit it,\u201d Trump is heard saying. \u201cShe was married. And I moved on her very heavily.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI moved on her like a bitch, but I couldn\u2019t get there. And she was married. Then all of a sudden I see her, she\u2019s now got the big phony tits and everything. She\u2019s totally changed her look.\u201d<\/p>\n

Later in the conversation, he told Bush he is \u201cautomatically attracted to beautiful\u201d women and often tries to kiss them.<\/p>\n

\u201cI just start kissing them,\u201d he said. \u201cI don\u2019t even wait. And when you\u2019re a star they let you do it. You can do anything.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cGrab them by the pussy,\u201d Mr Trump says. \u201cYou can do anything.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mr Trump issued a statement shortly after the footage was leaked.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis was locker room banter, a private conversation that took place many years ago,\u201d the statement read.<\/p>\n

\u201cBill Clinton has said far worse to me on the golf course \u2013 not even close. I apologise if anyone was offended.\u201d<\/p>\n

For his part, Mr Bush said he was \u201cembarrassed and ashamed\u201d at the contents of the video.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s no excuse, but this happened 11 years ago \u2013 I was younger, less mature, and acted foolishly in playing along. I\u2019m very sorry.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hillary Clinton described the comments as \u201chorrific\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe cannot allow this man to become president,\u201d she posted on Twitter.<\/p>\n

Mr Trump has said he will not bring up stories about Bill Clinton\u2019s infidelities in this Sunday\u2019s US presidential debate after previously threatening to do so.<\/p>\n

House Speaker Paul Ryan said: \u201cI am sickened by what I heard today.<\/p>\n
