News Desk:<\/strong>\u00a0Railway Minister Nurul Islam Sujon has said that besides all types of freight trains, four pairs of special trains will run on the lockdown from today.<\/p>\n

He made the announcement at a press conference on \u201cLockdown and Operation of Freight and Parcel Trains at Covidal\u201d at Railway House on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

The government has imposed strict restrictions for a week since Wednesday to deal with the rise in coronavirus infections.<\/p>\n

Various restrictions have been in place in the country since April 5 to control the infection. Since then, the railways have been carrying only emergency goods by keeping the passenger trains closed.<\/p>\n

The Railway Minister said, \u201cMango trains, luggage vans and animal-carrying trains were also run last time so that our farmers could take advantage of the railways for transporting goods. This time these parcel trains will be run as planned. \u201d<\/p>\n

He said Dhaka-Sylhet (daily), Sylhet-Dhaka (daily), Chittagong-Sarisabari (daily), Sarishabari-Chittagong (daily), Khulna-Chilhati (Sat, Mon, Wed), Chilhati-Khulna (Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday) ), Panchagarh-Dhaka (Sat, Mon Wed), Dhaka-Panchagarh (Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday) parcel train will run.<\/p>\n

The trains will start running from today, he said. \u201cInitially, they have been launched for lockdown. Later, there are plans to run these trains as per the need and we will increase its scope.\u201d<\/p>\n

The minister said, \u201c25 per cent concession on basic fare and all other charges will be waived for the transportation of agricultural products such as vegetables, local fruits and other agricultural products on special side trains.\u201d<\/p>\n

The fare for the 319-kilometer Dhaka-Sylhet route has been fixed at Tk 1.11 per kg. The fare for 346 km on the Dhaka-Chittagong route will be Tk 1.18 per kg.<\/p>\n

Chittagong-Sarishabari 469 km for 1 taka 35 paisa per kg, 1 taka 30 paise for 390 km on Chittagong-Sylhet route, For Khulna-Chilahati route 490 km 1 Taka 36 paise, The fare for 593 km on the Panchagarh-Dhaka route has been fixed at Tk 1.56.<\/p>\n

Railway Secretary Selim Reza said transport of goods from India was increasing, adding that 319,000 tonnes of goods had been brought from India in 140 trains in March. Rice and wheat are more among these products.<\/p>\n

Director General of Railways Dhirendranath Majumder, Additional Director General (Operations) Sardar Shahadat Ali and other officials were present on the occasion.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/article>\n
