The poet died on 14 March 1966 at the age of 63 in the capital Dhaka. On the same day, he was buried under a favorite pomegranate tree in the yard of his ancestral house in Gobindpur village of Ambikapur union in Faridpur Sadar upazila. Although his full name is Jasimuddin Mollah, he is known as Jasimuddin. He was born on 1 January 1903 in the village of Tambulkhana in Faridpur district. His ancestral home is in Gobindpur village of the same district. Father Ansaruddin Mollah was a school teacher. Jasimuddin&#8217;s formal education began at Faridpur Hitaishi School in his childhood. He then passed Praveshika (1921) from Faridpur Zilla School, IA (1924) and BA (1929) from Rajendra College and MA (1931) in Bangla Language and Literature from Calcutta University.<br \/>\nJasimuddin&#8217;s career began as a collector of rural literature. While studying in the post-graduate class, he was appointed by Calcutta University in favor of Dinesh Chandra Sen. From the time he passed his MA till 1937, he was the research assistant of Ramatanu Lahiri under Dinesh Chandra Sen at that university. In 1938 he joined the Bangla Department of Dhaka University as a lecturer. After serving here till 1943, from 1944 he served first as the Publicity Officer of the Bengal Provincial Government and later as the Publicity Officer of the East Pakistan Government. He retired from here as Deputy Director in 1982 and settled permanently at his home in Kamalapur, Dhaka. Jasimuddin&#8217;s poetic power was manifested in his student life. From then on, he portrayed the simple and beautiful form of rural nature and rural life in his poems. Its existence seemed to merge with the soil and people of the countryside. In college life he gained immense fame by composing the poem &#8216;Grave&#8217;. While studying at the university, his poem was included in the Praveshika Bangla collection. This is one of his outstanding achievements as a poet. He has worked in various branches of literature, such as Ganthakavya, Khandakavya, Natak, Smritikatha, Children&#8217;s Literature, Story-Novel etc. His first book of poetry &#8216;Rakhali&#8217; was published in 1926.<\/p>\n<p>His notable books are: Nakshikantha Math (1929), Sojan Badiyar Ghat (1933), Rangila Nayer Majhi (1935), Matir Kanna (1951), Suchayani (1971), Padma Nadir Deshe (1969), Bhayabha Se Dinagunite (1982), Padmapar (1950), Daughter of the Vedas (1951), Pallibadhu (1956), Maya of the Village (1959), In the courtyard of Thakur&#8217;s house (1961), Bandare in the German city (1965), Smaraner Sarani Bahi (196), Bengali comedy stories, Dalim Kumar etc. . His novels Bengali Laughter Story (two volumes, 1970 and 1974) and Boba Kahini (1974) are readable.<\/p>\n<p>Jasimuddin Jarigan (198) and Murshid Gaan (198) compiled and edited two books of folk music. Jarigan was published by the Central Bangla Development Board in 1986 under his editorship. Jarigan is Bangladesh&#8217;s own creation. A total of 23 turns of jarigan have been compiled in this book. In the introduction to the book, Jasimuddin highlights the origins of jarigan and the characteristics of jarigan in different areas. The second book was published after his death.<\/p>\n<p>His Nakshikantha field poem The Field of Embroidered Quilt and Bengali Laughter Story has been translated into English as Folk Tales of East Pakistan. Jasimuddin&#8217;s place is prominent in the genre of Bengali poetry. His poetry is unpretentious but beautiful. The tradition and folk life of rural Bengal has taken a new form in Jasimuddin&#8217;s poetry.<\/p>\n<p>The main preoccupation of his poems is the story of happiness, sorrow, laughter and struggle of the people of Bangladesh. Jasimuddin was awarded the President&#8217;s Pride of Performance Award (1958), the honorary Doctor of Literature degree of Rabindranath Tagore University (1989), the Ekushey Padak of the Government of Bangladesh (198) and the Independence Day Award (posthumously, 198).
