As a political figure running for president, it can be hard to connect with the average American on a more human level \u2013 but for Hillary Clinton, that\u2019s where Humans of New York came in.<\/p>\n
The Democratic presidential candidate was profiled on\u00a0the popular Facebook page (turned book) on Thursday.<\/p>\n
\u201cI was taking a law school admissions test in a big classroom at Harvard. My friend and I were some of the only women in the room,\u201d the post began.<\/p>\n
Clinton told\u00a0a personal story of how when she was taking the test, men in the room began to verbally attack her, simply for being there.<\/p>\n
\u201cOne of them even said: \u2018If you take my spot, I\u2019ll get drafted, and I\u2019ll go to Vietnam, and I’ll die.\u2019 And they weren\u2019t kidding around. It was intense. It got very personal,\u201d Clinton continued.<\/p>\n
Seemingly drawing parallels to both how she chooses to handle critics in her bid for the White House, while at the same time identifying and relating to\u00a0an issue that many women face in their professional careers, Clinton wrote that she couldn\u2019t respond to the attacks because she \u201ccouldn\u2019t afford to get distracted.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cBut I had to learn as a young woman to control my emotions. And that\u2019s a hard path to walk,\u201d she wrote. \u201cBecause you need to protect yourself, you need to keep steady, but at the same time you don\u2019t want to seem \u2018walled off.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
In a way, Clinton takes ownership of her pereived aloofness — even if she doesn’t agree that it’s her true self.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think I come across more in the \u2018walled off\u2019 arena. And if I create that perception, then I take responsibility,\u201d she wrote.<\/p>\n
Clinton\u2019s HONY spotlight comes a day after she took the stage at the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum in Manhattan for the NBC Commander-in-Chief Forum, which highlighted a very different side of the presidential candidate.
