{"id":2048,"date":"2016-08-26T15:51:50","date_gmt":"2016-08-26T15:51:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.banglanewsus.com\/english\/?p=2048"},"modified":"2016-08-26T15:51:50","modified_gmt":"2016-08-26T15:51:50","slug":"phulbari-like-movement-to-save-sundarbans","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.banglanewsus.com\/english\/2016\/08\/26\/phulbari-like-movement-to-save-sundarbans\/","title":{"rendered":"Phulbari-like movement to save Sundarbans ,,"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Online Desk : Leaders of the National Committee to Protect Oil-Gas-Mineral Resources and Power-Ports on Friday said the Sundarbans will be protected the same way the Phulbari movement resisted the open coal mining move in 2006, says UNB news agency.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fb-quote fb_iframe_widget\">This is not a development at all, which goes against people, society and environment as well as welcomes destruction, they said at a meeting in front of the Central Shaheed Minar in Dhaka.<\/div>\n<p>The meeting was organised marking the 10th anniversary of the Phulbari Tragedy Day.<\/p>\n<p>Chaired by committee convener Sheikh Mohammad Shahidullah, the meeting was addressed, among others, by columnist Syed Abul Maksud, professor MM Akash, Ruhin Hossain Prince and Noor Mohammad.<\/p>\n<p>The speakers alleged that local and international looters failed to gain their interests from Phulbari following a mass protest, but now they are trying to destroy the Sundarbans, a UNESCO world heritage site and the world\u2019s largest mangrove forest.<\/p>\n<p>Bangladesh-India Friendship Power Company Ltd (BIFPCL), a joint venture company formed by Dhaka and New Delhi, has signed a contract with Indian contractor BHEL to install Rampal Power Plant near the Sundarbans.<\/p>\n<p>It has been alleged that the coal-based power plant will cause havoc to the Sundarbans.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Online Desk : Leaders of the National Committee to Protect Oil-Gas-Mineral Resources and Power-Ports on Friday said the Sundarbans will be protected the same way the Phulbari movement resisted the open coal mining move in 2006, says UNB news agency.
