Newly minted Rockie reliever Phillip Diehl initially thought his now-former manager Aaron Boone was pulling a sickening revenge prank when he uttered the life-altering words, \u201cWe\u2019re trading you,\u201d on Saturday.<\/p>\n
Earlier in the day, Diehl stole CC Sabathia\u2019s spot ahead of clubhouse haircuts. Payback for messing with a veteran wouldn\u2019t have shocked the 24-year-old reliever, he told ESPN.<\/p>\n
\u201cI had taken CC\u2019s [Sabathia] spot in the barber\u2019s chair,\u201d Diehl said.<\/p>\n
But Boone wasn\u2019t kidding, as the Yankees sent the 24-year-old reliever to Colorado in exchange for outfielder Mike Tauchman.<\/p>\n

That Diehl was considered an up-and-coming arm within the Yankees organization likely contributed to his wrong conclusion. The 27th-round pick in 2016, yet to see a regular-season MLB action, had a 4.50 ERA, and struck out 17 in 10 innings over nine spring training relief appearances.<\/p>\n
\u201cI just love the way this kid competes, and he threw the ball incredibly well,\u201d Boone told reporters. \u201cObviously people are taking notice. We got a good player for him. That speaks to the camp he had.\u201d<\/p>\n
The move of course only concerned the Yankees boosting its suddenly depleted outfield depth.<\/p>\n
Tauchman is insurance for a club unsure when center fielder Aaron Hicks (back) will return from his most-recent ailment.
