Most of the claims hinge on the Muslim princess called Zaida, who fled her hometown of Seville in the 11th century during a Berber assault on her hometown.<\/p>\n

Zaida converted to Christianity and married King Al-Mu\u2019tamid ibn Abbad of Seville and bore him a son \u2013 one of whose decedents later married the Earl of Cambridge in the 11th century.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
But Zaida\u2019s own origins are debatable.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Some make her the daughter of Muatamid bin Abbad, a wine-drinking caliph descended from the Prophet. Others say she married into his family.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Reaction to the queen\u2019s alleged Muslim connection has received a varied response in the Arab world.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
While some have warned of a plot to revive the British empire with help from Muslims, others welcomed the news.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Abdelhamid Al-Aouni, who wrote the article in Al-Ousboue added: \u201cIt builds a bridge between our two religions and kingdoms.\u201d<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Other reports have called the Queen sayyida or sherifa, titles reserved for the Prophet\u2019s descendants.<\/p>\n
