News Desk: The holy month of Ramadan is just a few days away. On the other hand, lockdown is going on in the country due to Corona epidemic. Anarchy is going on in the daily commodity market. Adulterated and counterfeit products are being sold in the shops. Prices are being collected from consumers at will. It has created navishbas common people. Such irregularities are also rampant in the case of life-saving drugs. However, the Department of Consumer Rights and mobile courts are campaigning in the market almost every day. Unscrupulous traders are also being fined for these operations. But the dishonest clique of traders is not paying attention to it.

It is learned that edible oil, rice, onion, gram, sugar, dates, sanitizer and other daily necessities are being sold at unreasonable prices in different markets of the capital. Apart from this, although there is a provision to display the price list of the product, in reality its existence is not found in the markets. Instead, there is evidence of discrepancies in sales receipts with price lists, non-preservation of purchase receipts, counterfeit medicines and expired medicines, fake masks-sanitizers, weight fraud and other offenses.

A total of 31 companies were fined One lakh and a half 13 thousand Tk for these crimes in different parts of the capital on Saturday. The punishment was imposed during a raid by the National Consumer Rights Protection Directorate under the Ministry of Commerce.

Sources said the raids were carried out at various supermarkets and pharmacies in the capital including Kawran Bazar, Mohammadpur Krishi Market, New Market, Hatirpul Bazar and Palashi Bazar on Saturday. Manzur Mohammad Shahriar, Deputy Director (Deputy Secretary) of the Dhaka Divisional Office of Consumer Rights, Md. Masum Arefin, Deputy Director of the Head Office, Afroza Rahman, Bikash Chandra Das and Fahmina Akter, Assistant Director of the Dhaka Divisional Office led the campaign.

Apart from this, Rajbi Nahar Rajni, Assistant Director, Head Office, Pranab Kumar Pramanik, Tahmina Begum, Rozina Sultana, Magfur Rahman and Mahmuda Akter, Assistant Director, Dhaka Divisional Office supervised the market in different markets of Dhaka metropolis.

Bablu Kumar Saha, director general of the consumer rights department, said the country has adequate stocks of goods and supply is normal. Besides, the government is selling daily necessities at subsidized rates through TCB. So there is no opportunity to sell products at unreasonably high prices. He also urged consumers to refrain from buying extra products ahead of Ramadan.
