In Ranishankail, Shimul tree is the refuge of Pankauri birds

News Desk: Greenery ceremony all around. In the middle stands a huge shimul tree with its head held high. In the golden afternoon sun, the feathers of Pankauri are shining on the branches of Shimul. It has become a sanctuary of Pankauri. This Shimul tree in Keutan village is like a safe haven for Pankaur birds.

Seeing so many pankauri together in one tree, many pedestrians are standing for a while and covering their eyes. And seeing that, the owner of that tree, Yadav Roy, came to life. Yadav Roy’s house is in Keutan village near the road from Shantipur to Kathaldangi in Ranishankail upazila of Thakurgaon.

Yadav Roy said, ‘It is our moral responsibility to save the birds. And because birds come here, countless bird lovers come from far and wide every day to see only birds. It’s good to see. With the end of the winter season, the presence of birds also decreases. At one point, the Shimul tree bird gradually became empty. Then the chest feels empty. These birds also return when the winter season returns at the end of the summer. Then the chest is full. Although there were some losses due to the birds, I accepted all the losses. ‘

It can be seen on the ground that there is a shimul tree with its head high above all the trees beside the Kulik river. Only pankauri and pankauri on the branches of the tree. There is no accounting for how many pankauri. All around the mouth in the murmur of Pankauri. And many people crowd to see this scene. And the tree has become a safe haven for these birds. However, the locals complained that these birds are less common this time as before. Because nowadays some people are hunting birds with guns. Although they are forbidden to hunt birds, they do not listen. Dulal, a resident of Keutan village, said the birds stay in the Shimul tree at night. In the morning the birds go out in search of food. He comes back to the tree in the evening. It looks so beautiful. These pankauri birds are living in the Shimul tree as their safe haven.

At one time there were a lot of birds in this tree. But its numbers have dwindled due to bird hunters. Birds need to be protected. Former principal and bird lover Tajul Islam said the area regained its beauty because of the birds. Birds play a vital role in protecting our environment. Therefore, if the Pankauri birds are taken care of safely, the number of birds will increase further. The administration should also take necessary steps to keep the Shimul tree safe. Upazila Nirbahi Officer Sohail Sulkan Zulkar Nain Kabir said action would be taken against bird hunters. Besides, administrative activities will be intensified to provide security to the birds.
