Doming sees potential in Rishad

Rishad Hossain took 5 wickets in the third match of his first-class career. His performance in the legspinner crisis has raised great hopes in minds of selectors. After the great achievement against Rajshahi of this spinner from Rangpur, he was also called up for the national team camp. Bangladesh coach Russell Domingo has found potential in this 18-year-old legspinner.

Despite having experience in first-class and T20 cricket, Rishad has never played ODIs. He also achieved the experience thanks to this year’s BCB President’s Cup. The legspinner has taken four wickets in four matches for Nazmul Hossain Shant XI in the tournament. In the second and third matches, Rishad took two wickets each for Tamim XI and Mahmudullah XI.

Rishad’s performance has impressed Domingo. He said, “He was very impressive in the “A” tour to Sri Lanka. But you have to be patient with him. Legspin is a very difficult art. You cannot master it within a year or two.”

Domingo also mentioned a way to keep the leg-spinner confident. He said, “We have to pick him against the right teams. Pick him for the right conditions. If you pick a young legspinner too early, he bottles against a quality batsman, you can hurt his confidence immensely. Sure, there are times when you have to front up and do it. I think the management of his career is very important.”

The coach sees the potentiality of Rishad becoming an international cricketer. He said, “He is still young, he has to be patient. But he has shown that he has a lot of potential. Still needs to work on a couple of things, but he can be an international cricketer.”
