Bengali New Year celebration to be held in Michigan

An annual celebration of the Bengali New Year has been planned with activities on April 15. The event celebrates Poila Baishakh, the first day of the Bengali calendar, in Bangladesh and India.

 

The history of Bengali New Year Celebration dates back to the 15th century, a joyous occasion to indicate the commencement of the harvest season. Throughout the globe, the event is observed with great jubilation and vigor within the Bengali community even today.

 

 

 

Organized by Onuronon (The Resonance) the Bangladeshi American community in Michigan, this year’s event, Bengali New Year 1425, is planned from 2.30 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Hillside Middle School Auditorium, 775 N Center St, Northville, MI 48167

 

 

 

This is the consecutive second year marks the celebration is being held by the young engineer’s team. To commemorate the heritage, the team aspire to put up a vibrant and colorful exhibit of the ethnic culture of Bangladesh on the occasion, through songs, folk dance, drama and likewise.

 

The event kicks off with lunch from 2 p.m. followed by a cultural program from 2 30pm to 4 p.m. Tickets are $5 for adults, Children under 12 are free. For more information on the event, call 586 289 3415 (Saif) or 248 459 7920 (Jaffrey)
