Bangladesh national team captain Mamunul Islam thinks that every match is challenging for them to go to final in the Bangabandhu Gold Cup International Football Tournament when they will take on Malaysia today at 6:30pm at the Bangabandhu National Stadium.
The day’s first match will be held at 3:00pm at the same ground with Nepal facing Sri Lanka.
It will be the second encounter for both the Bangladesh national side and the Malaysia as they have already played their respective opening match at Jessore.
Bangladesh team, no doubt in an advantageous position in their group when they are the only winning side with an impressive 4-2 starter against Sri Lanka and the other two teams, Nepal and Malaysia shared points after a 0-0 draw in their opening match.
However, both the Malaysia and home side will play with the target to win the match, for the former it is very much important to win in a bid to stay strongly in the race to go forward and the latter will have to win to confirm the semifinal berth.
Though Malaysia is the defending champions but it is not the same team, played in the previous edition but Mamunul evaluated this team is better than they faced last year.
Bangladesh head coach Maruful Haque, when addressing in the pre-match press conference yesterday at the BFF Bhaban said that his target was to go forward step by step and after making the winning start their next go to move into the semifinal.
“It is very much important tournament for us, before starting we were expecting to make it with a winning note and the first target was fulfilled, now our next target is to move into the semifinal,” said Maruful.
Irfan Bakti Abu Salim, head coach of Malaysia team, said that they are the favourites in today’s match as the defending champions team.
“Of course, we are playing as the defending champions. But we have every respect to Bangladesh team, certainly they are strongly prepared for this tournament, no problem, we will fight and I think it will be tough match for both sides.”
